about the video games magazine
My name is Johannes, and I am the editor of the video games magazine. I started the magazine after I read an e-book called the Affiliate Masters Course. I found the Affiliate Master Course very interesting, as it is about how people can start a website related to their passion, or interests. Video games are one of my interests and I have been playing them since I tried a simple game called Pong. After reading the Affiliate Masters guide I was interested to know more, and this lead me to SBI. SBI, or Site Buildit is basically a website solution for people that want to build a website around their passion or interest. Whatever your interest is, SBI can help you to build a website for it. SBI is just what I had been looking for. I started building the video-games-magazine.com in 2004, and using SBI to build the site has been very simple. I started playing games much earlier, or about the time of the first 8 bit games like Pac-man and Load Runner on the Commodore 64.Below you can read about some of those games. 8 bit games The first video game computer I owned was an 8 bit computer. A Commodore 64, which like the number says had 64 kilobytes. Today not many computers or game consoles could run with that little memory, but they did not have to then, because the games were more simple than they are now. Playing video games was as easy as putting a cassette in a tape machine, and then the computer loaded the game up. Most games were on a cassette, and you had to load them into the computer to play them. This could take some time depending on the game, but it usually did not take a long time.
Some games did also come on a diskette, which allowed people to load games a bit faster. One of my favourite games in those days was a game like Pac-man, Load-runner, and a lot of others. The games were played with a joystick, and exercised good reflexes. Today it is possible to play some of the most popular 8 bit games on the web, but playing them with a joystick is the only way to go.
These games are much smaller than most games today, and more simple. Because of their small size it is possible to get them built into a joystick that can be plugged directly to a television. Your can read more about them in the 8 bit video games classics collection
16 bit games Amiga 2000, was my second computer, and was a 16 bit computer, with 1 megabyte, of memory, or 1024 kilobytes. It also had more colours, or up to 4096 on screen from a palette of million colours, which was a lot in those days. There were also other 16 bit machines like the Atari ST. For some reason there have always been rivalries between computer platform, the Amiga, had great animation, and graphics capabilities, the Atari, had great music and sound abilities. Overall, these computers had the same abilities, as they were with the same processor, called Motorola. The games were good, and at that time they came on a diskette, which could store up to 880 kilobytes of information that is made up of pictures, sounds, and code that are the ingredients of the game.Diskettes were new in those days, and faster to load than using a tape, and could also be used to store other things like, documents, or a picture.
16 bit video games were an evolution after 8 bit video games, the games had 4 channel sound audio, and the computers were faster, about 7mhz, which stands for megahertz, and is the count for how fast the computer operates. But those things were not the main things, the main thing was, the playability of the game. If the game was good, you played it until, either you had finished it, or that there was a new game out, worth playing. On the Amiga I played games like, Tetris, Altered beast, It came from the desert, and a lot others. You can look at some them in the 16 bit video games classics collection
32 bit games Being an avid gamer, I have always followed with the gaming world, and watched what was new, later I learned of a new format, that was about to change the face of gaming. The CD, or the Compact Disc, which was a giant leap away from the diskette, in terms of storing and access. A single CD can store 600 megabytes of data. This was a giant leap at the time, and now entire encyclopaedias could be stored on single CD, this also meant that it was possible to make bigger, games, with more quality in the picture and audio. CDs have good audio quality, and the sound in the games was even better than ever. It was just like computers had been waiting for this evolution, as they were beginning to advance to 32-bit computing. One of the first computers to start advancing towards console gaming was the CDTV, which was an Amiga computer that could play video games, and multimedia titles. It had a CD drive and could also play music, and was connected to a television. The CDTV later evolved into the 32-bit arena with the CD32.
My third video games computer is a 32 bit classic video games systemPlayStation, but before that there were others. The CD32 was one of the first 32 bit gaming consoles. It was also an Amiga computer, and could be connected directly to the TV, and played games on a CD. This was one of the first step into the CD console arena. When the PlayStation, arrived on the scene, it took the gaming world by storm. Some of my favourite games for it are Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo. 128 bit games 128 bit game consoles offered games with better graphics and sound than ever before. Four consoles were originally released that had a 128 bit processor. The first that was released was called a Dreamcast by Sega, but it did not become as popular as the other three console released and was discontinued. The other three consoles were the PlayStation 2, the Xbox and the Gamecube. Each of them have games that are fun and offer original gameplay. On the Playstation 2, there are games like Metal Gear Solid 2, Gran Turismo 3. The Xbox has titles, like Halo, Splinter Cell:Pandora Tomorrow, and Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic. The Gamecube comes with titles like Mario Kart:Double Dash, Metroid Prime,Star Wars: Rouge Squadron III. The games are still evolving, and today we don’t have to think about cassettes, floppy disks, or CDs, because we have DVD´s, which stands for Digital Video Disc. A single DVD can store up to 6 gigabytes of information, or one big game with lots of animation, pictures, and game code.We can play video games, off-line or on-line with our friends or anyone in the world.
Video Games are evolving, and we as gamers are evolving along with them. The 128 bit Modern video games guide is a look at where we as gamers are, and where we are going. The next generation Looking back at where video games have come from and where they are going, we can see that the storage medium of video game consoles have had a lot to say about what kind of games we are playing. From cassettes to diskettes to cd´s to DVD´s the storage is becoming more, and more and the games are getting bigger and bigger. From the developement of storage mediums we can see new formats being developed like HD-DVD and Blu-ray, which can store more information than ever before. Some of the next generation games consoles like the PlayStation 3 has a Blu-ray drive. This format is meant to play games and watch movies on HDTV or High Definition Television, which has a higher resolution than a normal television. With a higher resolution comes the need for a bigger storage medium, and a Blu-ray disc can store up to 25 gigabytes of game data. Thats no small size for a disc the size of a DVD disc. The Xbox 360, and the PlayStation 3 both have big game processors, and big storage mediums to play bigger games. Wii, is the name of the third game console. It does not have a big storage medium, or a big game processor for playing big games. It focuses instead on the way games are played by using a motion sensitive controller. The controller is a wireless and a motion sensitive remote, and introduces a new way to play games. The future is big for gamers, and the games bigger than ever. A lot can be learned from history, and where we will go from here. Video game magazines offer a good way of following that history, along with online directories like the game section of the Open Site that cover different websites about video games.
