the Modern video games guideJumping all the way to the modern video games guide, we find ourselves in a world of fast changes, were we as gamers make big expectations. In the Modern age of video games we can explore a new way of playing video games. We have come to expect the best graphics, game play, and sound, anything less, is just not good enough.
The games are made for us, and competition between developers is fierce to release games that meet our expectations. Today there are three consoles vying for our attention as gamers, and each of them brings the goods in different ways. Putting them all together in one super console, would deliver a great gaming experience, as they all have great titles.
Individually they cater to the individual gamer, if you like one type of games, each of them would be a good choice to play your favorite game. Each of them has the face of the game, we like the most. For fans of Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, and The Final Fantasy series, the face of your gaming experience is the Play station 2.On the Xbox it would be games like Halo, Project Gotham Racing, Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic, games that cater to our experiences as gamers, and reach to fulfill, what it is we like about games.Metroid, Prime, Mario Kart: Double Dash, Star Wars:Rouge squadron III, are all Gamecube games, and define different genres of the platform. Most of the games are defined by a genre like action games, first person shooters, or racing games. Some even offer a chance to roleplay in another world, were there are different rules, and where you are the center of the action. That is were most gamers want to be, at the center of the action, but some games are challenging that perspective. They are challenging it, by making you the center of the action, along with a thousand of other players, that have like you, been at the center of the action in most single player games.
Now they are the center of the action along with you, in Massively Multi Player Online Role Playing Games, or MMORPGS. Games like Final Fantasy XI,which is a game that puts you and a thousand other players at the center of the action, in a persistent world. A world that is there, even when you are not playing and changes when you are offline.
The difference from a single player game, is that they are subscription based, and you have to pay a monthly fee to play them, most games have 10-15$ monthly fee. These games along with online games, are what the next wave of video games are about, playing and creating online friendships with people from all over the world, in different game worlds, in a game like Final Fantsy XI.
In an online game like Final Fantasy XI, you can make friends with gamers all over the world. As the video games evolve, we as gamers are evolving with them, making different demands to games, and playing different games at the same time. To survive in a competing marketplace, video games have to meet our demands, and the demands of the hardware they are playing on.
Already we are beginning to see new kinds of games and hardware, like the Eye toy, and a different way of interacting with games, by moving, instead of sitting, and with our arms and legs instead of just our hands.
We are also beginning to use voice to interact with each other in team based games, like SOCOM II where we can interact in the heat of the moment to make the experience more engaging. By using a headset we can communicate, when playing on-line games, and bring back the feeling of what it is like to compete in a competitive game. The Xbox Live also offer gamers a unique way to interact with each other players through the Xbox communicator while playing games.
Voice interaction also makes it easier to play the game without the need for a keyboard, now you can just concentrate on using a controller, and interact with others through a headset, that can also make the game experience more fun. Voice recognition is also beginning to advance in games, where we can interact with characters in the game, by giving them orders, and telling them where to go. Life line is a video game that is based on using voice recognition.A game that uses this feature is Lifeline by Konami. The game has started an evolution of voice activated games in a similar way that a called Zork used in text based games of earlier videogames. In Zork, which is an interactive text based game, you have to use the right word, so that the computer will understand what you want to do in the game. In Life Line you have to use the right words, or phrase the sentences in the right way so that the voice recognition of the game will understand you. Interactive text based games evolved past that hurdle, and voice activated games also will.
We as gamers are living in a world of fast changes, were the gaming experience is changing fast, as we are adapting to new ways of playing. The goal of playing is still entertainment, and anything less is not good enough because it is our time, we are putting in the game, and we deserve the best game experience.
