The X Box

The X Box console is a marvelous piece of equipment, and comes with some great games. One of the first things you notice when you start the X Box, is that there is a lot of processing power has been put in the console.

In fact it has a Pentium chip that is used to process all the game data while playing. Pentium's are usually found in PCs, and in the X Box there is a 733 Mhz chip.

This is the measure of the clock speed of the processor, or how fast it computes what is happening in the game. The Pentium, has been used to develop PC games for a long time, so to use it to develop console games might a good idea.

As it would be very easy to port games between the platforms, and also to design a console with a lot staying power, as the games are already there for the pc. Developing them for the X Box would be easy, and developing new games. The games are also faster to load, as they can be loaded off the X box hard drive.

This is a novelty in console games, but also a great advantage over the other consoles, as you don't need to have a memory card to save your games. You just save them on the hard drive, which is a whopping 8 gigabytes. A slot is provided for memory cards, if you want to play your saved games with your friends.

The true multifunction of the hard drive comes to light, when using it to rip your cd´s to the drive, so you can play your own music when playing your favorite game. The console also comes with a built in broadband Ethernet connection, and already has a service called X Box Live, where you can play online games for a fee.

The X Box has a 250mhz Nvidia graphics processor for all those graphics intensive games. It also comes with a possibility to play games on High Definition Television screen, all you need is HDTV and HDTV A/V pack, and you are ready to play games without any "jaggies" (which are graphics where you can see low resolution pixels on images)

What sets the X Box, from all the other consoles is its size, and the big controllers that come with it are no exception, and give you something to grab at. While the Playstation 2 comes with a built in DVD, the X box also comes with DVD, the only thing you need is a DVD remote. You can get the remote as an upgrade to watch movies, when not playing X Box games.
